In news that concerns mental health and addiction services that are on Te Wana Quality Improvement Programme, the Government announced in January 2018 that it has taken a major step towards improving mental health and addiction services. Prime Minister Jacinda Adern announced details of a ministerial inquiry that has a particular focus on equity of access to quality services and better outcomes.
