Te Wana’s first accredited organisation in Australia

South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation

In June, Charlene and Jane were privileged to have the opportunity to travel to Nowra, New South Wales, to work alongside and guide an Australian reviewer, Anthea Jackson (pictured in the middle with Te Wana’s Charlene Ratana far left and Jane Clark), for the first Te Wana accreditation across the ditch.
It was an awesome experience and we thank the management, staff and board of South Coast Medical Service Aboriginal Corporation (SCMSAC) for trusting us with this process and for opening their organisation and their land for us to visit. We felt very welcomed and honoured to be there.
It was inspiring to see and hear of the wonderful services SCMSAC provide to their community and the huge benefit this has on people’s lives. Directly providing health services, but also many complementary services such as transport, education and advocacy for accessing wider health services.
We were moved by the challenges faced by Aboriginal people and communities and can see many similarities between indigenous people here, in Aotearoa New Zealand, in Australia and undoubtedly all over the world where colonisation has impacted so detrimentally.
Thank you, in particular to CEO Craig Ardler (pictured to the right above with Charlene and Jane) and John Rumble for their hospitality both at the organisation itself and showing us around the area – a very special visit to an aboriginal   community, Wreck Bay was absolutely a highlight we will never forget.

“We were comfortable with Te Wana’s approach and methodology. In particular, we felt culturally safe. The Reviewers showed great cultural sensitivity. The process was useful for us and will assist us with our long term planning.”

The CEO arranged for a celebratory afternoon tea and Te Wana Director Stephanie Pope travelled to Nowra to present their accreditation certificate. Craig selected the two youngest staff members (pictured left to right: Chloe Booth, Stephanie Pope and Nathanael Curtis) to accept it on behalf of the organisation as a succession gesture.

 


Plunket Support Office and PlunketLine

Plunket Support Office and PlunketLine have successfully achieved AAA-NZ accreditation following the Te Wana Quality Improvement review in June this year. The accreditation also includes three-year accreditation for the Te Wana standards related to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Recently published by Plunket – “It is a fantastic achievement and I want to congratulate everyone for supporting and contributing to the review,” said Amanda Malu pictured on the right with Te Wana’s Programme Manager, Jane Clark.

The Accreditation Alliance Australia-New Zealand (AAA-NZ) Board congratulated Plunket on our commitment to following a systematic quality programme and being open to external examination.

The review involved a panel from AAA-NZ undertaking a series of workshops and evaluating a collection of self-assessment quality workbooks and other evidence prepared by staff.

“The next step for us is to work through the recommendations received in the report from the Te Wana review panel and ensure our quality planning processes align with this over the next three years,” said Rodney Farrant, Performance and Reporting Manager.

“This is integral to the work we are doing as part of the Plunket plan and will help us to ensure we have measurable outcomes for the work we are doing.”

The AAA-NZ Board also applauded Plunket’s leaders in their desire to move to a more enabling leadership approach across the organisation.


NZ Certificate in Whanau Ora

The New Zealand Certificate in Whanau Ora Level 4 is a 20 week course.    The New Zealand Diploma in Whanau Ora Level 5 is a 36 week course, pre-requisite of completing Level 4.  This is run by Tipu Ora Manaaki Ora Trust
